2023 was another successful Natal Day Road Race event, with nice weather and almost 1,000 registered runners. There was also a new 6-mile male course record set by Lee Wesselius, breaking a record that was set in 1982 by seven-time winner Robert Englehutt.
The Dartmouth Natal Day Road Races have been held in Dartmouth continuously since 1907, making it one of the oldest races in North America. It consists of 2-mile and 6-mile events, run on a 2-mile course through historic downtown Dartmouth. The course starts and finishes in front of the 250-year old Christ Church on Ochterloney Street and is followed by a reception and awards presentation.
The event attracts many of the top elite runners from around the province, but it is organized as a family-oriented race with many multi-generational families doing the race together. The race is priced to make it affordable to all participants.
Many people the Dartmouth Natal Day Road Races part of their annual Natal Day weekend, either as participants or spectators. The annual Natal Day Parade goes past the start-finish area shortly after the end of the race and there are lots of other activities going on in Dartmouth throughout the day.
The race has been organized by Fast Company Running Club for more than 25 years, with the support of a dedicated group of volunteers and the Halifax Regional Municipality. We have also donated thousands of dollars to local food-security charities, including Margaret's House, Feed Nova Scotia, and Christ Church food Bank, when we have had excess funds from the race.
