Fall Club Update

September 7th, 2009

The warm days of summer may be over but the best season for running is just beginning! Our regular Sunday morning runs will continue from the front door Dartmouth Sportsplex at 10 am and our mid week Wednesday evening runs (5:30 pm) from the parking lot of Graham`s Grove park will continue as well.

CLUB NEWS

The club has two full teams entered in the Rum Runners Relay this year. We hope that as many club members as possible will join us for the whole day and cheer on the team.

Congratulations are in order for Ray Williams and Dave Nevitt who recently completed the Cheat Mountain Moonlight Madness 50 mile run in West Virginia. The race began at 9pm and treated all participants to rain, fog, mud, wildlife, and approx. 15 miles of single-track technical trails. Ray ran an impressive 10 hours and 20 minutes in what was his trail ultra debut and Dave finished in a very respectable 11 hours and 30 minutes. Dave can easliy be forgiven for his slower time as he had completed the Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run only six weeks before this event!! The training partners are already talking about a return to Vermont in 2010.

For more information on the Vermont and West Virginia Ultras the race websites have been added to the “Links” section of our page.

Volunteers are Still Needed

July 22nd, 2009

With the end of July fast approaching Natal Day Weekend is almost here! We are hoping to see most of Dartmouth out to either watch or run our race.

The Natal Day race is the oldest road race in Nova Scotia and one of the oldest road races in North America. With elite runners, families, children, and paddlers all coming out to participate it is truly one of the highlights of the Natal Day weekend.

If you aren’t a runner but would like to contribute to our event we are still in need of volunteers and will gladly welcome any new faces! For further information about volunteering or the race contact the race director Ray Williams at 463-4939.

We hope to see you on race day!

Run the Natal Day Dartmouth Double!

July 14th, 2009

This year, as a means of encouraging the many younger runners we have in HRM, the Natal Day 2 Mile Road Race will present medals to the top three runners in all Youth Running Series age divisions.

We would also like to remind you that our race is the second event in a weekend of running for HRM. The ”Dartmouth Double” kick off on Sunday with the Mac Pass Miles: a series of free races across the Macdonald Bridge with categories for runners of all ages. If you are saving your legs for our races the next next day be sure to come out and watch. Events get under way at 9 am and finish off with the elite men’s and women’s races. You won’t want to miss it!

Natal Day 2009 Update

July 2nd, 2009

The countdown is on – only one month to race day!!

As always, we try our best to improve on our race each year. New additions for 2009 include music and an official time clock at the one mile mark, a larger, improved water stop on Hawthorne Street, and free massage therapy at the finish line area. As always we will also have plenty of draw prizes including a draw for three pairs of running shoes from Aerobics First.

Although we have been experiencing some technical difficulties uploading the registration form to the website you can register online at www.atlanticchip.ca or download the entry form from the Run Nova Scotia website: www.runnovascotia.ca. Look in the online calendar of events for our race and you will find a link to our form.

Race kit pickup and walk-in registration will run from 3 – 6 pm on Sunday August 2 at Christ Church Hall, Ochterloney Street and from 6:30-7:30 pm on race day. Kit pickup is often very crowded on race day so we strongly encouraged to register early! Online registration will be accepted until 6pm on July 31.

The six mile race is part of the Run Nova Scotia Timex race series and provides local runners of all ages a chance to mingle with some of the top road runners in the province. HRM’s very own Denise Robson and Rami Bardeesy - the top Canadian masters finishers in the Boston Marathon – will be out to challenge for the trophy as will many of the province’s elite runners. The Timex watch tickets that you see for sale on race day help send the top runners of the Times series to the national 10K championship in Ottawa in the fall.

As always, however, we pride ourselves on being an event for runners and walkers of all levels and hope all of Dartmouth comes out to share in the experience. Our race is one of the oldest road races in North America and is a long standing tradition in the Dartmouth Natal Day Festivities. If you’re not a runner, come out to cheer on your friends! We guarantee you will see someone you know!

Should you have questions about registration or race day logistics please contact Ray Williams (463-4939) or Cathy Carter (489-5907). We hope to see you there!

Club Activity Update

January 18th, 2009

After much waiting we are finally able to post to our site once more! Many apologies to those who have looked at us and not seen any activity.

This month the club is mourning the loss of Betsy Armstrong, who passed away this month after a long battle with cancer. Betsy was a long-time Natal Day volunteer and club member who’s calm organizational skills will be sadly missed. Our thoughts go out to her husband Bob and family.

The club will continue with our 10am Sunday runs throughout the winter months and runners of all abilities are welcome to join us.

Natal Day Wrap-Up

August 27th, 2008

Fast Company would like to extend a big Thank You to everyone who helped make the 2008 Natal Day Road Races a success. We had approx. 800 finishers between the two races. See you in 2009!!
